Facilities

At Black River, a charming 160 year old ranch house centers all of the other buildings on the 360 acre farm and ranch just 80 miles north of Detroit and 20 miles north of Port Huron. The west boundary of the ranch is more than 2 miles of the Black River. A stream wandering through the valley, a five-acre lake, natural woodlands and the fields of the River Bend Farm combine to create a perfect setting for girls out on a horseback ride.

Bunkhouses

The BR boasts 2 newly constructed cities, Virginia City and Carson City, each of which consist of 4 bunkrooms and 2 community bathrooms. Each bunkroom can accommodate up to 12 people and is perfect for large groups. Spacious front porches and common rooms are great for relaxing and playing games.

The newly updated Dodge City is composed of 4, eight-person bunkroom and a ten-person staff room with a spacious exterior bathroom but still reminiscent of the original cities.

Equestrian Facilities

BR is home to more than 70 wonderful, four legged friends of many sizes, breeds, and colors. Our horses are chosen for their temperament and versatility.

The equine facilities include 8 outdoor riding rings, 1 indoor arena, 2 saddling barns, a vaulting ring and training area, and our hay barns and tack rooms. The barn area is surrounded by paddocks, pastures, and many different areas for trail riding.

Dining Hall

Camp meals are served buffet style in Debor Hall. Campers and staff dine together as a cabin for lunch and dinner and they eat with their riding groups for breakfast. We have cookouts, barbecues’ and picnic lunches during the week that are served around camp and in our covered pavilion.

Activity Areas

Craft Barn
The craft barn was one of the original barns at the ranch but it is now the place to create and design with a group table where staff can teach the project for the day and a independent free art area.

Hard Court
Tennis, pickleball, basketball, and more! The courts are lined for a variety of sports and with portable nets we can move things around to accommodate many different groups and games. Campers also enjoy Tether ball, volleyball, and the occasional soccer match.

Trampolines
A classics favorite, the trampolines is a popular spot for camper to hang out and bounce around in the afternoon and evening, with staff supervision of course!
